Franken toys
Description
Bring out your inner mad scientist! Engineer your very own creepy monster to rival the likes of Dr. Frankenstein! We'll take old toys under the knife and test the limitations of teen vs. toy!
Budget
Stuffed Animals (yard sales & donations): $28
Various Crafting Supplies
Scissors, Glue, Hot Glue, Duct Tape
Needles, Thread, Yarn
TOTAL: $28 (74 cents/person)
Program Details
Room setup: Ten tables down the middle of the room with 4 chairs at each table. (This setup keeps everyone in small groups, which helps to control the chaos.) Set up 3 tables for toys in one corner of the room, 2 tables for sewing supplies in one corner, 2 tables for embellishments in one corner, and 1 table near an outlet for the hot glue gun. Set up one additional table to serve as the Boneyard.
Logistics: Give out colored stickers as teens enter the room. Have 10 stickers of each color. Once the program is explained, teens will be called over in their color groups to select their primary toy. Other parts will be chosen based on what is left over and by sharing among the group.
When teens begin disassembling toys, they can negotiate trades or put their extra parts in the Boneyard for others to choose from.
Advise teens that perfect sewing skills are not necessary, as visible stitches will make their toys more "Franken!"
